Calendar Creator 6

Calendar Creator, which we strongly believe is the finest calendar-making program available for your computer (see our earlier review of version 4) has a new look, added capabilities and is sitting pretty fat and sassy with version 6.0.

What's it do? First and foremost, it will link with your Palm Pilot handheld. It is an excellent implementation of the integration of the Palm Pilot and a desktop personal information manager and the only limitation we found was that the advanced capabilities available in Calendar Creator are somewhat difficult to move to the less-flexible Palm platform. The result of this is that if you use some of the more advanced features of Calendar Creator 6 (and you should) there will be a slight slowdown in your Palm Pilot's calendar function. This is more than overcome by the smooth way CC6 handles the hot sync ability of the Palm.
I solved this problem by deleting some of the events which were "different:" Easter, the Jewish Holidays and the like. Because it does not have the capabilities to deal with irregularly-scheduled events, the Palm Pilot sets them up as daily events (as in 365 a year) and then "hides" all but the one which you really want to appear. Once I figured that out, I simply deleted these irregular events from the Palm Pilot (they still appear on the Calendar Creator calendars) and all was well.
If you look at the top of the screen, you'll see why Calendar Creator tops everyone else. My family is absolutely addicted to its colorful calendars. How much nicer it is to keep track of everything with this liberal use of icons. And those icons can be photographs, too. My dog really appreciates it that her picture is on the calendar – even if she's less than excited to be scheduled for her annual rabies shot.
CC6 boasts a new look in its scheduling functions, as shown to the right. This has the effect CC6-EVENTof placing everything on one popup, and making it all more logical. There are also new text options and, in my opinion, easier-to-use date rules and functions. The functions are really nice (and have been in previous versions) in that you can count things such as birthdays and anniversaries (and even death anniversaries – both for "English" dates and Hebrew dates. I am not using it, but you can even set up a counter for days till the millenium!
A major upgrade has made the art library easier to use, more accessable and more stable. cc6-artCalendar Creator 4 had this annoying tendency to crash when you were trying to integrate art. CC6 not only does not do that, but makes it easier to select icons, has more of them and makes it much easier for you to use your own art as well. And the program "remembers" what artwork you are using so that you don;t have to go "hunting" for something you have used before. Very nice.
CC6 also now allows more than one calendar to cooexist in the same file. This means you can have a "personal" calendar and a "business" calendar together and share events if you wish. A fine addition.
There is simply no calendar program as flexible, feature-rich and capable as Calendar Creator. The addition of Palm Pilot integration adds an outstanding dimension for everyone who uses this very popular handheld. The bottom line: Calendar Creator is still King of the Hill. Long may it reign.
