from staying up late waiting for that special 4 meg monster to download. Truth be told, Go!Zilla, the program about which we are writing this review, "saved" me just a week or so ago when Netscape Communicator
first was available for download. I'll tell you all about that in a moment. Truth be told, Go!Zilla has changed the way I download forever – and it will for you, too. The little red-eyed gorilla icon sits on
your desktop when Go!Zilla is running (and will stay on top of everything so you can get at it) and you're surfing the web. See something you want to download? Just drag the location of the download onto the Go!Zilla icon and
keep on surfin' – Go!Zilla will keep track of it and start the download when you tell it to. In fact, it can download four programs at once! And in the background as well. Disconnected from your ISP ("I swear I remember disabling call waiting!")? No problem. Go!Zilla will reconnect to your site for you and then pick up the download where it left off. You don't lose any time.
(This works for sites which have an auto-resume function. If they do, Go!Zilla will display an auto-resume icon on its download window. I was surprised to discover how many sites include this feature nowadays.)
If you've ever done much downloading, even once in a while, you know how frustrating it can be to find two or three things you want and then wait for one to finish before the other can be started. Well, no
more. And you don't even have to wait: just go about your business while Go!Zilla does all the work. But that's not all. And this is what saved my bacon the other night. Go!Zilla will also search out the fastest
download site at the moment you are ready to download. Wow! I think Netscape Communicator is something like 4.9 meg. Everyone and their brother was trying to get the program and most of the sites – actually all but one of the sites – was rated from "average" to "poor" for download times. One site, though, was rated "excellent:" a difference of some 45 minutes according to my calculations with a 28.8 modem. Thanks Go!Zilla.
(No, I am not going to tell you where the site is. Go!Zilla will find it for you but for now, its just our little secret.) Go!Zilla is shareware and you can try it out for yourself.
You'll love it. The author is making several improvements to the program but it is already a dandy. The gorilla's eyes may be red, but yours won't.
