How We Did It!

For those into this sort of thing, this page will give you a good idea of how this site was built.
Every one of these products, with the exception of our web hosting service, is reviewed on this site. Check the review for more infomation on the program if you like.

BuiltByNOF This site is created and maintained by NetObjects Fusion (current version 3.0). You can read our review of the product, but it is important to know that the maintenance of the site is just as important as the creativity. There are hundreds of pages on this site, and it would be impossible for us to keep up with it all without the robust maintenance capabilities of NetObjects Fusion.

Much of the manipulation of graphics is done with products from Auto_FX_LogoAuto F/X Corporation. Every graphic is run through WebVise Totality, the best utility I have seen to reduce the size – and download time – of GIF and JPG files.  The fancy borders on graphics are the work of Photo/Graphic Edges, an extremely nice program just into its newest version. We also use PhotoGraphic Patterns to do some special things. I have found these products from Auto F/X to be useful, easy to use and powerful.

Other graphic effects are done with Eye Candy from Black Box AlienCorp. I havenot found a better program for those special-special things when you really want to grab someone's attention.

Both the Auto F/X and Eye Candy products are Photoshop plugins (although the new version of Photo/Graphic Edges will run stand-alone as well). Obviously, they enhance an outstanding program where, generally, most of the graphic manipulation is ADOBE LOGOdone. This is not to disparage other graphic programs which are reviewed on this site, but I am familiar this Adobe product, have used it for years, and find it also updates frequently enough to keep up with the state of the art.

The animated text effects are generally done with Crystal 3D Impact. I particularly like having the ability to animate each letter of a word independently, like our "BETA" logo.

I use HomeSite for the HTML code I need to generate. It comes with NetObjects Fusion, but is versatile and suits my needs very well. When this site was first put up I wrote the whole thing in Hot Dog Professional, which I also believe to be very good. However, as HomeSite is "part" of NetObjects Fusion, they seem to work well together.

I use other programs from time to time: J-Perk, Kai's Power Tools and, of course, Word. Our new web host is The Nerve, which offers a very interesting and inexpensive deal.
