Icon Edit Pro Great for Special Effects

   Hang on to your hats. When it comes to special effects for your icons, Icon Edit Pro is the baddest application out there.
   The only, and we mean only, downside to this excellent shareware program is the author lives in Austria and the only way you can pay the $11 registration is by mail. It is worth the time and trouble.
   Icon Edit Pro will work with four icons at a time, has visual undo levels, lets you set the opacity of colors and choose high resolution colors with RGB sliders. If that was all it would be enough. But there is more. A lot more.
   That is because Icon Edit Pro features:

  • Gradients: You can set color gradients within the whole icon or just in selected areas. This makes icons look teriffic.
     
  • 3D Effects: You can "raise" and "lower" whole icons – or portions of icons – and you can even select the colors for the raised and lowered effects.
     
  • Drop Shadows: Yes, drop shadows for icons. You can control the color of the drop shadow as well as the position.
     
  • Animations: Are built in. And easy to use.
     
  • Brightness, Contrast and Saturation Controls: For Icons!

   The tools are well done, and I particularly like the fact you can select a color with the right mouse button and then apply it with whatever tool you are using with the left.
