News Rover

If you use the Internet Newsgroups at all, you will absolutely fall in love with News Rover!
The great advantage of this program (aside from the most outstanding proactive support I have seen in 20 years of following software for all sorts of platforms) is that you can select newsgroups which you wish to monitor, go to sleep or to work (or home from work) and come back hours later and find all the messages on multiple newsgroups downloaded and resting on your computer waiting for you to peruse them.
And if that wasn't enough, the attachments to the messages will be downloaded as well!
Additionally, News Rover has a sophisticated message-reading and attachment-viewing ability built in which makes it extremely easy to go through the messages it has downloaded for you and to print, save, file and manage them.

This rather simple interface is the heart of it all. News Rover works by having you set up "interests," which may be any combination of news groups (and it is very sophisticated in assisting you in finding the news groups you want) and then just clicking the "Run" button. When you do that, it connects to your IP, gets the news groups and searches based on a very flexible criteria you can establish yourself.
Hey, walk away from it. Watch the NBA playoffs or whatever, come back hours later and see News

Rover has scanned millions of bytes, downloaded tons of messages, and even done some very advanced things like rejecting duplicate messages and reconstructing multi-part files!
What do you use this for? If you are interested in any subject, News Rover can find out what everyone is saying about it – and you can use News Rover to reply to news group messages as well. By the way, it will even check your email for you!
If you are, for instance, collecting fonts just set News Rover to look only for files with attachments like .ttf or .pfm. And when it finds one, it will save it for you!

All this while you watch Dennis Rodman called for another technical foul!

groups you want to scan so the ones you consider most important will be scanned first and excluding the actual downloading of any message without an attachment (as in our font example).and a host of other things.
In this day and age when support is, at best, questionable and usually expensive from lots of people, News Rover shines. I had a problem because, as it turned out, I was using a strange font setup in Windows and the buttons at the bottom of the main News Rover screen did not show up completely. I E-Mailed a query to see what might be wrong and the next morning there was a new version of the program waiting for me that completely fixed the problem!
Additionally, I have received about six new versions of the program since first downloading it. These are not bug fixes, but improvements which have been made to the product – some of them pretty extensive. In short, the kind of support you dream about but seldom see. Anywhere.
Get News Rover. It is an excellent product from a company which provides outstanding support. An unbeatable combination!
