You're surfing along and you pause to read a particularly interesting article when, after a few minutes, your Dial Up Networking application informs you you've been disconnected from the net. What a pain in the
patooie.
Its such a pain, as a matter of fact, that there are literally hundreds of
programs out there which purport to keep your connection going even though there may be no activity from your end. The earliest programs of this sort are called PING programs,
because they PING your Internet Service Provider every now and then with a signal to try to fool it into thinking you're doing something while you're reading that material.
The more agressive your ISP is, the more you need to eliminate this connection retention problem. It is perhaps symptomatic of ISPs that the ones with the most busy signals (are you
reading this AOL?) are the ones which are the most agressive with disconnects. The trouble with most PING programs is they don't work. Even moderately sophisticated ISPs
know how to read the PINGs and disregard them. That isn't a problem with Stay Connected. As you can see from the screen show of the options window, Stay Connected actually sends
HTTP, FTP and other signals. It can send one or many. You can choose what sites you want to send the signals to. You can choose how you want to send these signals. Best of all, your ISP
cannot tell what you're up to. You simply Stay Connected! Additionally, you can configure Stay Connected to do your dialing for you. It integrates
perfectly with your Dial Up Networking. One click. That's all. And no disconnects. And while I don't use it, there is, as you can see above, a special configuration for AOL.
Remember what I said about the ISPs with the most busy signals having the most agressive disconnect policies? 'Nuff said. You shouldn't use Stay Connected to keep an open line to the 'net 24 hours a day just to have
it at your fingertips. Really. People who do that merely clog up the 'net and make access slower for all of us. But, when you are really doing something, you shouldn't have to reconnect time after
time because your ISP sold more accounts than it can possibly handle. If staying connected is a problem for you, Stay Connected is your solution. It is the only
program of its type that I have seen which works all of the time, every time. That's worth the cost of this excellent shareware product!
