WinZip 6.2

WinZip: Simply Excellent

The award-winning WinZip archiving program just got better.
The truth is that WinZip does it all, using every significant feature of the reknown PK Zip DOS program to Windows within itself and adding some not-particularly-significant bells and whistles in conjunction with PK Zip itself. The best single feature of the program, aside from its point/click/drag capabilities is
the ability to preview what a program zipped in a file does without the necessity of actually installing it.

As you can see, WinZip 6.2 boasts new icons and new features, one of the more significant the "favorites" utility which allows you to easily determine where you want your zip files to be stored. Favorites lets you designate several directories, making it easier to segregate different types of files that you may download in
zipped form.
This is really two programs in one. There is the full-featured program and a wizard which leads the user step-by-step through the unzipping (and installation) process. It integrates into the desktop shell and features long file names for Win95. It also supports the creating of self-extracting zip files, which is ideal for sending
zipped files to persons who may not have an unzipping utility.
WinZip 6.2 adds several formats to programs it can zip and unzip. This was done, says developer Nico Mak, because many users are seeing some of these formats for the first time on the Web. They include UUencode, XXencode, BinHex and MIME. WinZip continues to support TAR, gzip and Unix compress as well as ZIP itself.
WinZip 6.2 is an outstanding program made even better.
